Asia – The Innovation Force Ready to Takedown US
Over the past couple of years, the Asian tech startup system has grown tremendously. Southeast Asian tech startups attracted 7.2 billion US dollars, which make the region the owner of 9 unicorns. China is a leader among all as it hosts 46 startups worth at least 1 billion US dollars. Nonetheless, the Asian region is still lacking behind the US market in terms of generating tech unicorns.
Uber’s founder and CEO, Travis Kalanick, predicted that:
“In the next 5 years, there will be more innovation, more invention, more entrepreneurship happening in China, happening in Beijing than in Silicon Valley.”
FinTech Week 2018 – The Largest FinTech Conference in Asia
Earlier in October 2018, Hong Kong hosted its 3rd annual Fintech Week, it’s one of the largest events dedicated to Financial technology in Asia. A large conference powered by a government-run organization named Invest Hong Kong and organized by the global event companies Finovate and Finnovasia.
This time the event has been extended to the Hong Kong’s neighbour city Shenzhen because the major topics of discussion of Fintech Week were around the Future of Financial industry in the Greater Bay Area. Its strategic position helped FinTech Week conferences reach more than 8,000 senior executives and featured over 200 of the world’s top FinTech investors, startups and their founders.
“This cross-border event will become a powerful conduit to foster development and application of fintech in the Greater Bay Area, strengthen HK’s role as a springboard for Mainland fintech firms to go global and for global fintech firms to enter the Mainland.”
